Mountain: A Unique Bluetooth Speaker Inspired by Nature

Combining Light, Sound, and Design

Inspired by the ever-changing interaction between light and sound, Qitao Wang and Xin Cheng sought to create a product that would bring the beauty of nature into everyday life. The idea behind Mountain is to use the form of light and music to evoke a sense of calm and pleasure, providing a comfortable and relaxing environment for users.

One of the unique properties of Mountain is its mountain-shaped design, making it a visually striking addition to any bedroom or living room. By harnessing the power of light and sound, this Bluetooth speaker helps users relieve fatigue and create a soothing atmosphere. Through a Bluetooth connection with a mobile phone, the lighting and music work together to reflect the cultural heritage of the landscape.

Operating Mountain is simple and intuitive. By pressing the top of the speaker, users can switch between music and light modes. When in music mode, the light changes rhythmically, creating a dynamic visual experience that complements the music being played.

The realization of Mountain relies on traditional mobile phone Bluetooth connection technology. By playing music through the speaker, the frequency changes of the sound are used to output a digital signal. This signal then influences the speed of the color change in the connected LED lighting, creating a captivating atmosphere that enhances the overall experience.

Mountain measures 250 mm x 114 mm x 150 mm, making it a compact and versatile addition to any space.

The design team behind Mountain includes Qitao Wang as the lead design director, along with Ziyu Lu, Zihui Wang, Yefan Tian, Canfang Chen, Zhengze Liu, and Xin Cheng. Their collaborative effort has resulted in a product that seamlessly combines art, design, and technology.

Mountain was developed in Guilin, China, with the project starting in October 2018 and concluding in January 2019.

Extensive research on user fatigue and the need for relaxation and rest inspired the creation of Mountain. By incorporating the shape of mountains, music, and lights, the designers aimed to provide users with a relaxed environment that promotes well-being and enjoyment.

The design process of Mountain was not without its challenges. The designer expresses gratitude to their mentor for their guidance and support throughout the project, helping them refine their ideas and push the boundaries of design.

Mountain has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that showcase technical and creative excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
